Tell CommonSpirit: STOP Wasting Money On Sports Teams, LAVISH EXEC SALARIES

Rather than focusing on safe staffing, patient care, charity care, and community, the executives of St. Joe, Virginia Mason, St. Elizabeth, St. Anne, and St. Clare are:

  • Wasting profits on expensive professional sports team sponsorships, including the name of the Denver Bronco's $175 million training facility

  • Giving themselves lavish salaries worth $79 million in one year alone

  • Spending less on charity care and financial assistance programs in WA despite increasing revenue

  • Closing vital patient clinics, such as Viriginia Mason Family Birth Center and Franciscan Women's Health Associates Clinic

  • Paying more than $5 million in fines for violating health, safety, and wage laws

  • Paying more than $25.8 million for violating consumer protection laws

  • Refusing to commit to safe staffing levelsputting patients, staff, and our community at risk

  • Effectively cutting pay for health care workers by refusing to keep up with cost of living and inflation

Add your name to tell “CommonSpirit” executives to stop wasting money on sports teams and lavish executive salaries. Invest in patients and staff!

What Is Common Spirit?

CommonSpirit is the corporate parent of Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, the result of a merger between CHI Franciscan and Virginia Mason. Before the merger, CHI Franciscan operated small community hospitals in Washington state, and Virginia Mason was a “boutique” hospital in the center of Seattle.

Now, all of these hospitals are part CommonSpirit Health, one of the largest healthcare systems in the country. CommonSpirit is a Catholic non-profit in name, but it acts like a for-profit investment firm — it sponsors stadiums and sports teams, hands out lavish executive salaries, pays massive fines for violations - and yet it still receives significant tax breaks as a non-profit system.

CommonSpirit owned hospitals include:

  • Virginia Mason Medical Center (Seattle).

  • St. Anne Hospital (Burien)

  • St. Elizabeth Hospital (Enumclaw)

  • St. Joseph Medical Center (Tacoma)

  • St. Clare Hospital (Lakewood)

Tell them to stop wasting money on sports teams and high salaries, and invest in staff and patient care.
